Open Position – Wetland Ecologist / 404 Permitting Specialist / Project Manager

CORVUS Environmental Consulting, LLC is looking for an experienced Wetland Ecologist / 404 Permitting Specialist with Project Management experience to join our growing team. You’ll work closely with other expert biologists and natural resource professionals while functioning in a variety of project roles including project manager, task lead, and technical specialist. This position will include localized fieldwork and meetings (within the state of Colorado, mostly along the Front Range), and is a remote-first / work-from-home (WFH) position. The successful candidate will have strong communication and organizational skills, be self-motivated in a WFH setting, and have a positive attitude with a desire to grow and provide excellent service to our clients.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Lead, support, conduct analyses, and receive authorizations in support of the Clean Water Act, Endangered Species Act, Migratory Bird Treaty Act, NEPA, and other applicable regulations
  • Lead and assist productive and organized meetings with clients and partners; support stakeholder engagement; and coordinate with federal, state, and local agencies
  • Organize, coordinate, author, and edit various deliverables such as proposals, work plans, delineation reports, biological assessments, habitat assessments, feasibility studies, compensatory mitigation plans, wetland restoration and design plans, and 404 permit applications
  • Facilitate, manage, and perform fieldwork and data collection i.e., wetland delineations, threatened and endangered species surveys or habitat assessments, noxious weeds surveys, vegetation establishment assessments, and ecological restoration recommendations
  • Provide training and guidance to internal teams on Section 404 compliance
  • Stay up-to-date on changes in Section 404 regulations and guidelines
  • Have a continual desire to learn and grow professionally

Required Qualifications

  • 5-12 years of direct Clean Water Act permitting and field experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in biology, environmental science, ecology, natural sciences, or a similar discipline
  • Proficiency in wetland delineations, botanical surveys, and functional assessments (specialization in ecology/botany preferred)
  • Strong working knowledge of State (Colorado) and Federal ecological requirements
  • Strong analytical/critical thinking skills, with a demonstrated attention to detail and ability to work independently as well as in multi-disciplinary teams
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record, and access to a reliable vehicle
  • Excellent technical writing skills. Clear and concise communication will be required on a daily basis

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with applicable ecology in Colorado or surrounding states
  • Technical state and federal regulatory permitting expertise on transportation and stormwater projects including Clean Water Act section 404 permitting, Section 7 consultation, and CDOT NEPA Catex documentation
  • Experience successfully authoring and obtaining standard Individual Permits under section 404
  • Stream Quantification Tool assessment experience and applicable training
  • Experience with ArcGIS Pro, FieldMaps, Survey123, or similar GIS applications
  • Restoration knowledge and experience
  • Aptitude and desire to continually learn and apply new software to reduce workplace operational friction
  • The ideal candidate will be a team player with a positive attitude that strives to provide quality work, meet project needs, and deliver projects on-time while having the ability to work independently and track multiple priorities at different progress levels

Compensation and Benefits

  • Expected salary range $75,000 – $105,000/yr, contingent on experience and skillset
